We are the Boa Palavra Garden. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> We are and organic farm and we  grow aromatic and medicinal plants. Our way of work is inspired by different sources such as permaculture, art,  traditional/ancestral knowledge, but mostly by daily observation, experimentation and ‘listening’ to our plants. We integrate in our farm work, artistic and educational projects that  make more visible the connections between people, nature and art, as well as strengthens a sense of community. We are located 10 minutes by bike from Setúbal city center.   Setúbal is a small and charming city near the beach and the beautiful Arrábida hill. (Setúbal city  It’s a 50minutes bus/train ride from Lisbon.). . The volunteers joining us will enjoy being part of the Boa Palavra Garden ‘s family and to develop practical and theoretical knowledge in the following areas : -Planting and growing aromatic plants -Cropping techniques - Picking techniques - Drying plants     -Stocking  procedures for aromatic and medicinal plants -Theoretical knowledge on the effects and use of specific plants for therapeutic  purposes. We are an open farm and everybody is welcome. We will love you to visit and/or stay with us. We only expect people joining us to have an interest for organic farming and a good sense of humor, as to work with our plants and to laugh are the two main activities in the Garden. Volunteers will usually work in the morning and have weekends free. The  volunteer’s accommodation is 15 minutes walk to the nearest beach, 5 minutes walk to the city center  and to the municipal market.  The volunteers  will have their own room and will share the toiled and kitchen  with a maximum of four other volunteers.

Hello all! Happy Spring! My name is Cassandra and I finally graduated college and ready to hit the road! Me and my pup Sam are looking for a great fit for to continue our education. We are from upstate NY and are willing to travel just about anywhere in the country to find the right place. In short, I have a solid base of knowledge in small scale- organic vegetable farming operations, dairy, horses, and CSA. Where I have less experience is with animal husbandry and would really like to expand in this area. When it comes down to it, I am most interested in perfecting my knowledge so that I can own and operate or co-operate a homestead that is surrounded by a friendly community and dedicated to living close to the earth. This is a very broad statement and is meant to be. Basically, you have two hardworking, energetic, and dedicated hands at your disposal and in turn, I would like to learn MOST about - Homesteading, soil health, animal husbandry, bio dynamics, medicinal uses of surrounding environment, canning, preserving, honeybees, permiculture, horticulture, and you name it! As you can see, I'm not too picky. What I am not interested in is a farm where I am simply a labor hand. I have done that before and it just doesn't pay off. I am hoping to build on some of the relationships created. I have two summer classes to finish up before it's official making my arrival a bit of a late one. I have no pressing time commitments and will be willing to stay as long as needed. I do have eventual plans of getting a TESL certification to teach English abroad and would like, ideally, to find a place that offers a fair stipend and housing. Most likely, if you get this message, it is because I am extremely interested in your operation. It is a pre-written message meant to contact a broad number of people but I hope that you understand that this process can be somewhat time consuming and that we can talk in depth in further messages. I hope all is well for all of you. Happy planting and smile wide! Cassandra and Sam
