Full Season Internship Do you want hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture with a community organization that also works in immigration, social justice, international development, and social enterprise management? Tierra Nueva is offering one Full Season Internship to a person interested in receiving a $200/week stipend, home-stay, and in-depth training in sustainable agriculture in exchange for work on two small organic farms and supervision of other volunteers and interns. If you already have some experience in agriculture but want to learn all the skills necessary to plan, execute, and manage a full farm season, this internship could be for you. The Full Season Internship takes place in the lovely Skagit Valley, an agricultural community nestled between the Cascade Mountains and the Puget Sound, and it requires a full season commitment: from April 15th through October 15th. If you are self-motivated, interested in experiencing sustainable agriculture in a broader social context, and wanting to hone your agricultural knowledge and leadership skills, check out internship description and application here.

The Short Season Internships take place in the lovely Skagit Valley, an agricultural community nestled between the Cascade Mountains and the Puget Sound, and they require a 6-week minimum commitment between April and October. Alpha Farm seeks WWOOFers for the 2012 growing season. Alpha Farm is located about 25 miles from the Pacific Ocean and about 55 miles by road northwest of Eugene, the nearest city. Dense, predominantly conifer forests cover the hills of the Coast Range of Oregon. Opportunities include working in our 2 acre garden, construction, food preservation, and more. More details about Alpha can be found on our website. All meals are provided, but WWOOFers should provide their own camping gear. http://members.pioneer.net/~alpha/index.htm

This is not the WWOOF site, so I don't think the term applies... I think the term work-trader would be more appropriate. However, something about seeking work-traders seems to imply a need for labor, rather than offering an experiential learning program. Not trying to pick on ya, but this should be known by folks, in my opinion.

Hi Brandon, WWOOFers do not receive a stipend. We have several different living options available, however based on whether or not an individual would like to live here long term. Please look through our website for more detail.

does this position include a stipend? i have communal living experience as well.

We are currently in need of one person who would like to live in the garden in our wood-stove heated greenhouse for the spring. Duties would include feeding the fire twice during the night in addition to working in the garden during the day. (appx 40 hrs/wk)

Hi! I'm new to Grow Food but would love to find a farm to intern on if there are any available! I'm 22 and looking for wherever I can go to learn and work

Hello Jon! We have internships available at our farm starting as early as February. We are a diverse, organic farm that produces vegetables, fruit, honey, maple syrup, grass-fed chickens/beef, and a number of products produced from recycled materials such as old barn boards and tractor tires. We have a new farm store and participate in farmers' markets which both allow for in depth interaction with the consumer. We really try to be as flexible as possible with our interns. If you enjoy gardening or working with the animals then we will try to keep you around the farm. If you instead enjoy working at the farm store and interacting with consumers then we will try to keep you there as much as possible. We also do our best to make sure that you are doing as much learing as working and understand the principles that guide us with our work. Reneweable energy is also a big part of our farm. We have a biodiesel facility that produces tractor fuel from soybeans and we utilize solar for a number of applications. The owner has a degree in renewable energy and sustainability and it always looking for new ways to lessen the farm's dependence on nonrenewables. Check out our farm's profile if you are interested. You can reach me by email at mcneafm05@gmail.com or by phone at 607 846 1200. Best luck with securing an internship!

Howdy Folks. Here's why I'm here. Hope to connect... Seymour, IN United States Brandon Gerth About myself... I have a heartfelt belief in sustainable living and farming practices for a holistic lifestyle and livelihood for our society and planet as a whole. I've been working with organic farms and intentional communities since graduating high school, seeking an alternative to the industrial economy which has disconnected us from our natural environment, our food, and our overall well-being. I feel that this earth is such a blessing and it is our responsibility to cultivate spiritual awareness in harmony with nature and eachother. I love to be working outside with plants and animals, feeling energized by the sunshine, fresh air, and nature's beauty. I am inspired to be learning and working with permaculture gardening, natural building, renewable energy, and eco-villages. I believe it is crucial to be raising awareness of the possibilities we have to develop better connections with eachother, our food, and the world around us. I am dedicated to playing my part in the healing transformation of our planet into a world of peace, togetherness, creative expression and nourishment of all beings. I also love music and play guitar as well as many other instruments. I like to be creative with whatever is at my hands. Please get in touch if you feel a connection with my vision, and wish to share any knowledge or opportunities.

Hi Brandon, I think we share some of your vision. Please ck our host site here at Coweeta Heritage Center.

Hi! I have a dream to farm but have little experience, none outside of my own small garden. I'm looking to travel and gain knowledge and experience. Is there anyone in looking to train and teach? I am a fast learner and will work for food and board!

Hi Alexys! We grow a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, and fruit for our CSA and farmers market in southwestern Colorado. We also do a great deal of food preservation, make soaps, and other fun things. For more information or to contact us see our listing here or visit our website www.circleagarden.com

Hello Alexys! We have a farm and produce stand in northeastern Pennsylvania and we would love to have someone that is willing to learn and work come join us. We have a very diverse operation including vegetables, fruit, maple syrup, bees, herbs, grass fed chickens and soon beef. We believe that we can be very flexible as well. If you find out that you love to interact with people then we will try to get you around the farm stand and farmers' markets as much as possible. If you just like to be with plants, chickens, or the cows then we will keep you around the farm and garden. The dream and the passion is really what makes a good worker in my opinion and its what gets you out of bed in the morning. We can provide you with a mixed experience of both large and small agriculture if you like as well. My father runs a large crop and dairy operation, while I run a small scale organic operation. Both of us need good help and you could try them both out if you would like. I promise I will always try and explain the methods and ideas behind all tasks that you are involved in so that you can do as much learning as working. If there is something that you find that you want to get involved in when you get here that we don't have, then we will do our best to get your idea started and let you be an entrepreneur. We would be glad to provide room and board in exchange for your help and hopefully and great educational experience. If you are interested then please give me a call at 607 738 3837 or email me at mcneafm05@gmail.com Best of luck with your search and don't give up the dream to farm!

I have room at my rustic farm in central Pa http://directory.ic.org/22661/Central_Pa_Mountain_farm

Hello all! I am new to farming but I'm a hard worker, willing to work for a learning experience. I live in Milwaukee, WI but would LOVE to travel elsewhere and I am willing to do so for room and board. I'm a student of Nutritional Science (taking on-line classes now, may or may not take a break depending on where I go) and my goal is to teach children about eating fresh, healthy food and sustainability. I'm available anytime after April 1st until whenever!

Hi Jackie! How about southwestern Colorado for a change of pace? With the awesome San Juan Mountains as a backdrop to our valley? We grow a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, and fruit for our CSA and farmers market in our high tunnel as well as outdoors. Also preserve the harvest for ou own use, make soaps, wine, and other fun stuff. Please check out our listing here or visit our website www.circleagarden.com for more information or to contact us.

Hello Jackie! I have a new place to travel to if you are interested...the rural and beautiful Appalachian Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania. We run a farm and produce stand there and we are involved with vegetables, fruit, honey, and herbs. We are looking to also start a small beef herd this year. Nutrition is SO importand and something that we would like to promote more at our produce stand and farmers' markets. The word needs to get out more about the power of good nutrition and we would love to have you work on creative ways to improve how we incorporate nutrition at our stand and farmers' markets. Its also great that you are wanting to reach children about healthy food and sustainability. The current rate of child obesity and diabetes is disturbing. There is a day care and 3 grade schools near our stand. We would love for you to get those kids involved and potentially have field trips to the farm and farm stand. We could provide the kids with fresh produce and you we could show them how healthy food is produced from the seed to the table. I hold a degree in renewable energy and I am all about sustainability. We are installing a small biofuel facility to fuel our tractors and we currently looking into wind and solar to cover our electricity. Perhaps you could give the kids a nutrition lesson and then I could show them some things on renewables and sustainability? There are all sorts of things that we can do but I love your one-two punch of nutrition and sustainability. We would be glad to give you room and board in exchange for your help around the farm and the stand. I see it as a win-win for both of us. Give me a call at (607) 738 3837 or email me at mcneafm05@gmail.com if you are interested. Good luck with your seach and show those children the way!

Hello farmers! My name is Briana Renfrow and I am currently on the hunt for an extended internship beginning in the next few months or so. I have some experience with farming and gardening, and am hoping to expand on these skills with more in-depth learning for a full season in 2012. I am particularly interested in the areas of animal husbandry (beekeeping would be fantastic!) and the crafting of value-added products such as cheeses, herbal medicines, canned and fermented preserves, baked goods, etc. I hope to use these skills to one day run my own homestead and would like to pass on the skills I learn in community ecological education programs. Please let me know if I can be of help on your farm!

Hello Briana, Please see our post from 1/23/2012 describing what we have available. We would love someone to get back into bees around here! We have the equipment, just not the time at the moment! Mimi

Hello Briana. This is Fred McNeal the owner of Farmer Fred's in northeastern PA. You sound like you would be a great match for our operation. We are involved with vegetables, fruit, herbs, maple syrup, and fall decorative pumpkins. I see that you like husbandry....we currently have two hives and are looking to expand this year to 4 or 5 and we would love to have someone around who has interest in bees. We are also looking to start up a small beef herd this year and my father (and neighbor) has a dairy herd if you are interested in dairy. Finally, we raise grass fed chickens and we are constantly raising new batches of chicks if you are interested in chickens. We are opening a produce stand/farm store this year and we are going to be doing a lot of experimentation this year with value added products such as jams, pickles, and other canned products. We want to venture further into herbs and baked goods so we would gladly open up our kitchen to you so you can experiment and learn beside us. We will be very flexible for you if you decide to join us. If you decide that you like interacting with people, then we will try to get you involved with farmer's markets and the farm store, but if you just like being around bees and plants, we will gladly let you spend most of your days around the hives and the garden. I hold an advanced degree in renewable energy and we are going to be doing biofuel, and potentially wind and solar as well. We produce our own compost and other ammendments on-site and stick to organic methods with all enterprises. If you are interested please feel free to contact me by phone (607) 738 3837 or by email mcneafm05@gmail.com Good luck with your search!

Please ck our host site. We have current openings.

I worked as Tina's intern at Crimson Sage Nursery in Orleans, CA for two years. These two years were the best! Truly! She has a sweet homestead and operates a rad business in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. I learned so much about gardening, goats, poultry and of course medicinal herbs, as well as the operations of a small nursery business. Orleans is a vibrant community with a lot of opportunities to become more involved in farming, community action, environmental restoration and more! The accommodations are cozy, the food is delicious and the friendly conversations energizing!

If you enjoy interacting with people we will get you involved with our farm stand and farmers' market, or if you like plants and animals we will try to keep you around the farm and garden. Producing quality, sustainable food is our main mission, but we also feed that other areas such as nutrition and education are equally important. We will do our best to make sure that you are doing as much learning as working if you join us. We need interns starting as early as February/March of 2012 and the length of stay is flexible. Room and board will be provided as part of the experience and a small stipend may also be available depending on experience and performance.

Well... While 'Ol Man Winter was indeed quite late out of the gate this year, he certainly didn't forget his bag of frost at the terminal... Yep, it's officially getting COLD here in New England, and we are all too ready to follow through with our earlier commitment to at least make it closer to warmer waters before we see any real snowfall (We won't count that short-lived Halloween storm!)Spirited 31 year-old with a strong back, willing hands, and his 7 year-old Lab/Mix, Stanley.. ready to make our way back to the Pacific NW / Olympic Peninsula, to pursue that seaside life we've yearned for ever since passing through the area some time ago.. Now the only thing standing between us and the Left Coast is... well, somewhere in the realm of 3000 miles of frozen countryside.. Howeve, rather than view that stretch as an obstacle, I'm looking to pencil it into our itinerary as another destination(s), in the form of a seasonal stop or two.. or three! And whilst such was a plan inked many moons ago, when the moonlight wasn't reflecting off such a frosty white canvas, I'm still intent on traveling light.. a' la without a vehicle of my own (Please refer to my BIO for further details).. and am prepared to do so on the fly. Not to say that I've written-off driving us out of New Hampshire altogether - where as, if presented with a worthwhile opportunity, I would gladly load-up my tools and/or whatever into a rental, rather than have the same shipped to my final destination along with the rest of my secondary "essentials"..Regardless, this posting is a notice of our intent to set sail on or about the first of February, if not sooner.. Should your farm / community be located anywhere within a thousand miles or so of NH, and be on the lookout for sn extra set of hands & a caring soul - be it for a couple weeks, a couple months, or even through to the coming harvest, then I would encourage you to take the time to review our profile in it's entirety..It should be noted that I have a long list of friends & family scattered about the lower 48, and so basically have a good reason to travel to just about anywhere, if only for the sake of a brief visit regardless of whether a farm-stay does or does not work out... Although I'm quite confident that any such internship / apprenticeship will ultimately wind up being measured in weeks or months, as opposed to days..As a partner & hand, I will bring a great deal of experience and a wide range of knowledge to your table.. As a ham, Stan is sure to brig a similar deal of silliness to your days and plenty of smiles to everyone's faces..Happy New Right NOW!!!

Hello Kevin! Ah your story reminds me of the passage I made not too long ago from the redwoods of California to my farm in northeastern Pennsylvania. I unfortunately had to be in more of a hurry as I had just graduated with my masters and needed to get home to plant crops. Anyhow, my farm will soon be approaching maple syrup season and spring planting and we would be glad to provide room and board in exchange for some help boiling maple sap, building a greenhouse, and getting spring seeds started. We live on a 1000 acre farm and have no neighbors for a quarter mile in any direction. We also have two dogs that love to take everywhere that we can, especially to the 10 acre pond that is our back yard. Hi! I'm new to WWOOFing but would love the opportunity to help out and learn what I can in return. Are you looking for anyone right now?

Hello Diana! I need a good worker that is passionate about farming. We have a diverse operation including vegetables, fruit, herbs, bees, maple syrup, grass fed chickens, and soon beef. We also are starting up and farm store and will be participating in local farmers' markets. At my farm we try to be as flexible as possible. If you find that you like interacting with people we will try let you work at the farm stand and farmers' markets as much as possible, or if you just love being around plants and animals then we will just let you work around the farm and garden. I am very passionate about sustainability. I went to college for renewable energy and sustainability and we are incorporating biofuels and hopefully wind and solar at the farm. We also produce our own composts, mulches, and fertilizers. We could provide room and board for free as part of the experience and I promise that I will do my best to teach you as much as possible along the way. If you are interested please call me at 607 738 3837 or email me at mcneafm05@gmail.com Good luck in your search!

We are looking for a female intern asap!

We are looking for interns here in Colorado

Hello there! I am looking for an apprenticeship/internship for this coming year. I want to study herbal medicine as well and these things seem to go hand in hand. I live in Portland Oregon, but am open to traveling anywhere as long as there is room and board. I am a very hard worker, and very passionate about pursuing an education in farming and herbal medicine. Let me know! Hopefully we can find something that works well for everyone.

Hello Alex! We really need a passionate and hard worker on our farm! We run a very diverse operation including vegetables, herbs, fruit, bees, maple syrup, fall decorative pumpkins, grass-fed chickens, and soon beef. I was just out near your area in Arcata California getting my masters degree in renewable energy and sustainability at Humboldt State University! I think that you should ditch the rainy weather there for a while and come help us out in the beautiful Pennsylvania summer weather :-) I have been hoping to include herbal medicine into my farm store and I would love to have you experiment and persue your interest at my farm. I would gladly grow any herds that you interested in and open up the kitchen to brewing! If you are interested give me a call at 607 738 3837 or email me at mcneafm05@gmail.com

I'm looking for an opportunity to learn more about tree-crops: olives, prunus family, nut crops in particular, and an opportunity to integrate social enterprise into production, with a bent on introducing the public to less well know but delicious varieties of annual crops.

They're interested in me contributing to their operation, anyone want to collaborate?

I'm being interviewed for a permaculture education leadership position with an organization in the Negev Desert helping empower displaced Bedouins. If this is not the job I get, I am really intent on being somewhere this winter where I can be involved while learning how to cultivate tree crops, like carob, and the nut and tree crops mentioned above while building markets and growing varieties for other annuals: garlic, sunchokes, hakkurei turnips, Japanese sweet potatoes, e.g. somewhere milder than the US Northeast.

The Sylvia Center at Katchkie Farm is a non-profit organization focused on inspiring children to eat well through experiences with fresh produce on the farm and in the kitchen. We are now accepting applications for the following positions for the 2012 growing season: Garden Program Intern and Culinary Program Intern. Check out our profile to learn more about The Sylvia Center and our internship opportunities!

The picture above is Chef Sara! Sara was our Culinary Program Intern in 2011 and in this photo she is working our wood burning pizza oven! Groups visiting the farm created their own pizzas topped with local cheese and veggies they picked from the garden just moments before. YUM!

After completing this program I was offered 1 farm production assistant position at a non-profit farm in Olympia, and a second position that involves co-managaing 132-acre Chinook Farm in Snohomish, WA! I can only thank the training programs for being my springboard for my new passion. Thank you Maryon Atwood, and Sebastian Aguilar....Forever grateful!

The Greenbank Farm Agricultural Training center through a combination ofexperiential and classroom based learning shaped me into a confident future small farm vegetable grower. The program exceeded all expectations I had. This an unique program, in which the apprentices have the opportunity to be involved in the local food movement on a special Island in Washington (Whidbey Island). The CSA model and management of this style of agricutural brings a rewarding feeling and a sense of positivity of the surrounding islanders. The breadth of knowledge and skills learned within the 7 -month program under an amazing mentor/farm director sets you in the right path for success in any field involving sustainable food systems. Hands-on farming, biological aspects, marketing, and a business course leaves the student with every attribute to be successful. It offered me the confidence and tools to be able to start and run a small scale certified organic vegetable farm. My passion for conservation shifted to sustainable food systems, and the program at Greenbank Farm solidified my passion within this field. I could not have chosen to learn in a better environment or under a more qualified teacher (Sebastian Aguilar). I have walked away from this past season with an attainable dream of becoming a vital player within sustainable agriculture. This past season has also brought great joys of providing quality nutritional food to those in need, and also amazing new friendships. If you are looking for an affordable and great farming training program look no further.
