Hello all! I am new to farming but I'm a hard worker, willing to work for a learning experience. I live in Milwaukee, WI but would LOVE to travel elsewhere and I am willing to do so for room and board. I'm a student of Nutritional Science (taking on-line classes now, may or may not take a break depending on where I go) and my goal is to teach children about eating fresh, healthy food and sustainability. I'm available anytime after April 1st until whenever!

Hello Jackie! I have a new place to travel to if you are interested...the rural and beautiful Appalachian Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania. We run a farm and produce stand there and we are involved with vegetables, fruit, honey, and herbs. We are looking to also start a small beef herd this year. Nutrition is SO importand and something that we would like to promote more at our produce stand and farmers' markets. The word needs to get out more about the power of good nutrition and we would love to have you work on creative ways to improve how we incorporate nutrition at our stand and farmers' markets. Its also great that you are wanting to reach children about healthy food and sustainability. The current rate of child obesity and diabetes is disturbing. There is a day care and 3 grade schools near our stand. We would love for you to get those kids involved and potentially have field trips to the farm and farm stand. We could provide the kids with fresh produce and you we could show them how healthy food is produced from the seed to the table. I hold a degree in renewable energy and I am all about sustainability. We are installing a small biofuel facility to fuel our tractors and we currently looking into wind and solar to cover our electricity. Perhaps you could give the kids a nutrition lesson and then I could show them some things on renewables and sustainability? There are all sorts of things that we can do but I love your one-two punch of nutrition and sustainability. We would be glad to give you room and board in exchange for your help around the farm and the stand. I see it as a win-win for both of us. Give me a call at (607) 738 3837 or email me at mcneafm05@gmail.com if you are interested. Good luck with your seach and show those children the way!

Hello farmers! My name is Briana Renfrow and I am currently on the hunt for an extended internship beginning in the next few months or so. I have some experience  with farming and gardening, and am hoping to expand on these skills with more in-depth learning for a full season in 2012. I am particularly interested in the areas of animal husbandry (beekeeping would be fantastic!) and the crafting of value-added products such as cheeses, herbal medicines, canned and fermented preserves, baked goods, etc. I hope to use these skills to one day run my own homestead and would like to pass on the skills I learn in community ecological education programs. Please let me know if I can be of help on your farm!

Hey there. . . Sarah, here from Grassland Organic Farm.  Although we don't have bees, we have an incredibly diversified organic farm where we are milking 40 cows, raising 4 acres of mixed veggies, raising pastured broiler chickens, laying hens, and pigs.  We do not sell cheese or canned food, but we make these items on the farm for all of us to eat.  These are definitely skills you would learn.  If you are still interested in interviewing farms you can learn more about us at www.grasslandorganicfarm.com  Thanks!

Hello Briana. This is Fred McNeal the owner of Farmer Fred's in northeastern PA. You sound like you would be a great match for our operation. We are involved with vegetables, fruit, herbs, maple syrup, and fall decorative pumpkins. I see that you like husbandry....we currently have two hives and are looking to expand this year to 4 or 5 and we would love to have someone around who has interest in bees. We are also looking to start up a small beef herd this year and my father (and neighbor) has a dairy herd if you are interested in dairy. Finally, we raise grass fed chickens and we are constantly raising new batches of chicks if you are interested in chickens. We are opening a produce stand/farm store this year and we are going to be doing a lot of experimentation this year with value added products such as jams, pickles, and other canned products. We want to venture further into herbs and baked goods so we would gladly open up our kitchen to you so you can experiment and learn beside us. We will be very flexible for you if you decide to join us. If you decide that you like interacting with people, then we will try to get you involved with farmer's markets and the farm store, but if you just like being around bees and plants, we will gladly let you spend most of your days around the hives and the garden. I hold an advanced degree in renewable energy and we are going to be doing biofuel, and potentially wind and solar as well. We produce our own compost and other ammendments on-site and stick to organic methods with all enterprises. If you are interested please feel free to contact me by phone (607) 738 3837 or by email mcneafm05@gmail.com Good luck with your search!

Please ck our host site. We have current openings.

    Farmer Fred's wrote on 02 2012 Wed

Hello Jon! We have internships available at our farm starting as early as February. We are a diverse, organic farm that produces vegetables, fruit, honey, maple syrup, grass-fed chickens/beef, and a number of products produced from recycled materials such as old barn boards and tractor tires. We have a new farm store and participate in farmers' markets which both allow for in depth interaction with the consumer. We really try to be as flexible as possible with our interns. If you enjoy gardening or working with the animals then we will try to keep you around the farm. If you instead enjoy working at the farm store and interacting with consumers then we will try to keep you there as much as possible. We also do our best to make sure that you are doing as much learing as working and understand the principles that guide us with our work. Reneweable energy is also a big part of our farm. We have a biodiesel facility that produces tractor fuel from soybeans and we utilize solar for a number of applications. The owner has a degree in renewable energy and sustainability and it always looking for new ways to lessen the farm's dependence on nonrenewables. Check out our farm's profile if you are interested. You can reach me by email at mcneafm05@gmail.com or by phone at 607 846 1200. Best luck with securing an internship!
