We are Bernadette and Shawn.  We are 26 and 27, and we are having a baby boy in late April/early May.  We have been on the road since September 2010.  We desperately seek an opportunity to work-exchange in a communal setting as soon as possible.  Being that Bernadette is due to have a baby so soon, we are not sure that this is possible, or that many farms/communities/homesteads will be eager to open their doors to us.  Having a baby is a MAJOR motivation to NOT go back to our slave jobs, but to pursue self-sustainability more than ever.  If you have positions available, please contact us.  We are interested in organic gardening, natural building, naturopathic medicine, animal husbandry, hunting, art, cooking, food preservation, midwifery, and more.  We would prefer to stay on the west, as our family is in California, and we'd like to be relatively close for visits with our new baby (a day's travel or less).  Hope to hear from someone soon!

Hello farmers! My name is Briana Renfrow and I am currently on the hunt for an extended internship beginning in the next few months or so. I have some experience  with farming and gardening, and am hoping to expand on these skills with more in-depth learning for a full season in 2012. I am particularly interested in the areas of animal husbandry (beekeeping would be fantastic!) and the crafting of value-added products such as cheeses, herbal medicines, canned and fermented preserves, baked goods, etc. I hope to use these skills to one day run my own homestead and would like to pass on the skills I learn in community ecological education programs. Please let me know if I can be of help on your farm!

Hey there. . . Sarah, here from Grassland Organic Farm.  Although we don't have bees, we have an incredibly diversified organic farm where we are milking 40 cows, raising 4 acres of mixed veggies, raising pastured broiler chickens, laying hens, and pigs.  We do not sell cheese or canned food, but we make these items on the farm for all of us to eat.  These are definitely skills you would learn.  If you are still interested in interviewing farms you can learn more about us at www.grasslandorganicfarm.com  Thanks!

    Farmer Fred's wrote on 01 2012 Mon

Hello Briana. This is Fred McNeal the owner of Farmer Fred's in northeastern PA. You sound like you would be a great match for our operation. We are involved with vegetables, fruit, herbs, maple syrup, and fall decorative pumpkins. I see that you like husbandry....we currently have two hives and are looking to expand this year to 4 or 5 and we would love to have someone around who has interest in bees. We are also looking to start up a small beef herd this year and my father (and neighbor) has a dairy herd if you are interested in dairy. Finally, we raise grass fed chickens and we are constantly raising new batches of chicks if you are interested in chickens. We are opening a produce stand/farm store this year and we are going to be doing a lot of experimentation this year with value added products such as jams, pickles, and other canned products. We want to venture further into herbs and baked goods so we would gladly open up our kitchen to you so you can experiment and learn beside us. We will be very flexible for you if you decide to join us. If you decide that you like interacting with people, then we will try to get you involved with farmer's markets and the farm store, but if you just like being around bees and plants, we will gladly let you spend most of your days around the hives and the garden. I hold an advanced degree in renewable energy and we are going to be doing biofuel, and potentially wind and solar as well. We produce our own compost and other ammendments on-site and stick to organic methods with all enterprises. If you are interested please feel free to contact me by phone (607) 738 3837 or by email mcneafm05@gmail.com Good luck with your search!

Please ck our host site. We have current openings.

    Farmer Fred's wrote on 02 2012 Wed

Hello Jon! We have internships available at our farm starting as early as February. We are a diverse, organic farm that produces vegetables, fruit, honey, maple syrup, grass-fed chickens/beef, and a number of products produced from recycled materials such as old barn boards and tractor tires. We have a new farm store and participate in farmers' markets which both allow for in depth interaction with the consumer. We really try to be as flexible as possible with our interns. If you enjoy gardening or working with the animals then we will try to keep you around the farm. If you instead enjoy working at the farm store and interacting with consumers then we will try to keep you there as much as possible. We also do our best to make sure that you are doing as much learing as working and understand the principles that guide us with our work. Reneweable energy is also a big part of our farm. We have a biodiesel facility that produces tractor fuel from soybeans and we utilize solar for a number of applications. The owner has a degree in renewable energy and sustainability and it always looking for new ways to lessen the farm's dependence on nonrenewables. Check out our farm's profile if you are interested. You can reach me by email at mcneafm05@gmail.com or by phone at 607 846 1200. Best luck with securing an internship!

Hey All!  My partner and I are headed to the northwest this summer and are looking for a place to grow, work and learn in California, Washington or Oregon.  We are getting our Permaculture design certifications in July, and would love to be somewhere mid-June to mid-July, and potentially after the course for the fall season (we've got no set plans after August). We both have a fair amount of farm experience, and spent three months last summer at a farm in France dealing with veggies, goats, sheep and an energetic toddler. It was a fantastic experience and really solidified our desire to pursue farming long term.  Because finances are tight, we will need to be somewhere that can offer a small stipend, but we are willing to work long hours and have a tent we can stay in.  If it sounds like we may be a good fit, please get in touch!  Here is the link to our indiegogo campaign to raise funds for the permaculture design course if you'd like to check it out and learn a little bit more about us  http://igg.me/p/65971?a=405587Solidarity in the dirt, Emily

Cascade Creek Farm is looking for someone to take advantage of their farm incubator opportunity.  Located in the beautiful Kootenai River Valley of North Idaho, our 97 acre Idaho Registered Organic farm currently raises grass-fed/grass-finished beef, pastured hogs and pastured poultry.  We have been growing our farm for almost ten years and have a solid reputation with a consistent demand for our products.  We have a large prepped market garden space, available for immediate growing, with a farm pond nearby for irrigation.  Aside from the garden space, we have room for and likely extra equipment for developing other complimentary farm enterprises - laying hens, more pastured poultry, rabbits, etc.  Your creativity and enthusiasm are the only limits.  We have three farmers' markets within an hours drive, several natural foods/health food stores in the same area, and a year-round weekly  on-line farmers' market available as avenues of selling product.  We are especially interested in someone who would be open to managing our pastured hog operation.  Currently we have housing available, a three bedroom, one bath mobile home including high speed internet connection.  We are open to having an individual, couple or small family.  Experience and income potential.  For more information, email us through Grow food or at mimi@cascadecreekfarm.com  Rob Fredericks and Mimi Feuling.

Hello Everyone!  My name is Ashley...I'm 23 and I am looking to Intern/Volunteer/Work Long Term preferably for an Organic farm of any sort really.  I have done some organic gardening of my own...but nothing on a large scale.  However I am looking to learn as much as possible...I am smart and hard working...I learn quickly and am good at organizing and coming up with creative solutions to problems.  I am in a tight spot at the moment...I just ended a long term relationship and I am lost to what to do next...so I am looking for the Universe to help guide me to the right place.  I would love to help in a positive environment...with a sense of community and a loving supportive atmosphere.  I have lived my life tolerating negative environments and I am not ready to move on to a good place where I can learn and grow.    Email me if I seem like someone you are looking for...I am ready to start as soon as I can! ~Ashley

Hi! My name is reia. I am 26 years old from Gloucester MA. Anyone need a worker bee? I have 2 years of organic gardening experience (perennial flowers, annual flowers, ornamental trees, and veggies), completed a full seasons apprenticeship on a 500 member c.s.a. farm, have my permaculture 1 certificate, have completed an 812 mile wwoof farm tour of the pacific north west by bicycle (work trade), and have traditional schooling in horticulture. I have been trying to start my own organic gardening company with little success picking up clients, so I am looking for some paying positions where I can continue to learn. Some things I am interested in, but lack experience in are : goat milking/cheese making, winter vegetable production, bio-dynamics, creating a seeding calender, grass fed livestock, green manure with crop rotation, Market gardening, creating annual and perennial guilds. Thank you so much for your time!                                                     Reia Marie                                                 speakeasygardens@yahoo.com
