wandering, but hoping to land

10 November 2009
Hello Beautiful Farmers and Farm Friends. My name is Francesco and I'm looking for a long term farming apprenticeship and or workshare. I am looking to land in a place preferably with a Mediterranean climate that has fruit trees and a variety of nut trees.  Of course, there is more that I would hope for, but most importantly I seek a place to root down that speeks to my origin - I am from Sicily, via my parents and years lived there - as well as my hopes.  Among the lives I wish to cultivate are pigs - the nut trees being of primal importance to quality pastured pork production.  I've had a couple of apprenticeships in Italy under the tutelage of gatekeepers of the old ways, specializing in raising the happiest, tastiest pigs I've ever known as well as transforming them - on farm - into top quality cured meats.  There I learned about mixed pasture and forest rearing of pigs.  I also helped in the humble and stress free taking of the pigs life and transforming the flesh into a miriad of products. . . I'm interested in a place where I might be afforded the opportunity to contribute to an existing piggery or may be able to add pigs to an already existing whole systems design approach to agriculture.  Closed loops fascinate me.  Also, I'm a devout desciple of not chefs but rather the old cooking of grandmothers and various peasant traditions.  Although, I have also worked as a chef, not to mention ecological landscaper, photographer, and i've done even more to win my bread, i mean, make my bread.  I'm a baker, too, with a soudough start that I originally received from a farmer that has had the start in her family for over a hundred years. Anyway, I could go on, but I'll spare you details until we speak.  Feel free to contact me at 970.214.6449.Thanks and take care. Francesco Tripoli
