Write a Blog Post

31 August 2009
To write a blog post, log in and click the link to "Add Blog" under the "Add Content" menu in the left-hand sidebar. You'll be taken to a form that requires a Title, a Category, some Tags, Text, and a Pull Photo. Title: Keep these short—no more than a few words. Our style is to capitalize the leading letter of all words other than the, a, is, and prepositions shorter than five letters. Category: There are three categories. If you have the option of more than one of them—"Your Stories"—that means you're an editor. Stories by Severine or about her and the Greenhorns go in "Severine's Blog." Profiles of interesting people in our world go in "Fantasy Farmers." Tags: A Few short keywords that will help people find the post in searches or find other similar posts within the blog. "Permaculture" might be a good tag to include in a post on the Bullock Brothers. Text: The text editor allows some Microsoft Word-like features. One big thing to watch out for, though: You can't paste text from a Web page or Word directly into the box. It's got to be pasted into a simple text editor to eliminate the coding that Word tries to add. Pull Photo: This is the photo that will be added to the blog homepage and to the block of three photos below the slider window. Click "browse" to choose a photo from your hard drive. In general, .JPG, .PNG, and .BMP files work best. They also need to be smaller than 2MB in size. If you don't know how to resize a photo, just open it up on your desktop and take a screenshot of it: To take a screenshot with a Mac, hold down Shift, Open-Apple, and hit the number 4 on your keypad. The cursor should turn into a crosshair to drag over the portion of the screen you want to save. You should be able to upload the resulting desktop file (named Picture 1.png, Picture 2.png, and so on) to GrowFood without any difficulty. Once you've uploaded your photo, click "preview" if you want to see how it will look live. Or, if you're confident it all looks how you want it, click "save"
