While we do grow food for our own consumption,
Floramania is primarily an  ornamental and medicinal flower farm, with a great emphasis on using dried and preserved flowers for arts and crafts projects, which I sell through the Santa Fe Farmers' Markets and regional galleries. Dixon, located at 6000' in North central NM is a small village with strong community spirit,in a beautiful valley on a tributary of the Rio Grande.  Besides a lot of hard work, I can also offer the opportunity to see a full fledged, successful value- added operation. The volunteers who worked here in the past have enjoyed exploring the area, and taking advantage of my familiarity with great hiking opportunities.
Work includes planting, irrigating, weeding,  and maintaining the fields, and harvesting.  You can learn methods for drying and preserving botanical materials, and will have complete access to all the knowledge I have built up in 20 years of running my farm/business.   If you are interested in learning the craft part of the business (and are artistic and good with your hands), you will have opportunities to make wreath bases, and learn the steps towards creating work that sells.
Also, if you are interested in encaustic, you can see how the encaustic medium is prepared from local beeswax, and how I create 2-D work with pressed flowers using the wax.
We will be selling at the Santa Fe Farmers' Market, one of the premier Farmers' markets in the country.


Requisite skills: You must be energetic  and strong enough to work the farm, with a positive attitude.

Usual exchange is 4-5 hours work per day in exchange for room and board.  you will have your own room with private entrance, and great organic food.  I provide the ingredients, and while we may eat together sometimes, you can also prepare your own meals, and eat when you like.There is  a large vegetable garden for home use which you can help maintain, harvest, and enjoy.
If you'd like to work longer days, and then have other full days off, that is easily arranged.
