***SORRY, ALL POSITIONS AT QUINCY FARM ARE FILLED FOR 2013! PLEASE CHECK BACK WITH US FOR 2014 WORK OPPORTUNITIES IN THE LATE FALL. THANKS! ***
We're 2 young farmers growing 4 acres of diversified vegetables on a 50
acre farm in the town of Easton, right on the Hudson River about 3 hours
north of NYC. We use organic methods and sell at 4 farmers' markets
and a CSA in Ballston Spa. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work
alongside us in most aspects of production: greenhouse seeding,
transplanting and cultivation, harvest and washing, marketing, etc.
We're excited to talk and teach about farming while we work, but we also
welcome folks who just want to breathe fresh air and get their hands
dirty. Up to 3 volunteers are welcome at a time from May - October, for
stays from 3 days - 4 weeks, and longer if you fit in well. We can
provide transportation from Saratoga Springs, or from other local
train/bus stations if you'll be staying at least a week. As farm
owners, we work ridiculous hours, but we only ask you for 5~6 hours a
day, 6 days a week. We offer private rooms (bed, desk, etc) in the
farmhouse, with shared kitchen, bathroom, meals, and wifi. We're not
vegetarian but are happy to accommodate special diets during your visit.
Our farm is located right on the banks of the Hudson River, across
from the Saratoga Battlefield, with plenty of walking, swimming, biking,
etc to be had. We don't have spare bikes, but we have a canoe and
kayak available for exploring the river, which is mellow here. The
young, hip town of Saratoga Springs is about a 30 minute drive, and
there are several smaller bustling communities closer. We also speak
Spanish (but ask that all volunteers be able to communicate in English).
If you're interested in farmland access and conservation, our farm is
protected by a conservation easement protecting it forever against
development, and we're happy to share that story. Please plan to have
sensible footwear (rubber boots are ideal!) and a rain coat. We have a
friendly farm dog who lives in the house, so if you're extremely
allergic, please be aware. Thanks, and hope to see you!
