ELK Center - Ecological Literacy on the Klamath   www.elkcenter.org

We are two people plus an ever-changing number of family members, friends, interns, students, and guests. Our home is 50 acres of private land within the Klamath National Forest. Conditions are "rustic" - limited electricity, composting outhouse. Our goal here is to  learn and live a good life, while eating extremely well - this is not the terrain for commercial farming, nor is that our desire! Interns help us herd and milk goats, care for a small garden, and work on various projects as they come up. Depending on interest and season, there are opportunities to learn survival arts ("primitive skills"), herbal medicine, wilderness first aid, pruning, fire safe stewardship, natural building, goat packing, and much more. Make sure you leave time to jump in the river or hike the local part of the PCT!
The ELK Center is a queer-friendly, trans-friendly, family-friendly space, and all residents are expected to respect that policy. A commitment of two months is requested from interns at 20 hrs a week in exchange for room and board. Shorter term visitors are welcome as well.
