We are a fledgling Farmlet and want to invite volunteers to work with us for a few weeks to see if interns are something we want to pursue.
We have put in four small gardens (1200 sq ft total), a mini-orchard with 15 different fruits, and we have 3 hives of bees.
Accomodations will be the small guest suite in our 800 sq foot home, private bath, shared kitchen and living room and covered deck with swing and great mountain view. We live on 6+ acres and have a small creek running through the property. The creek and collected rain water provide most of our irrigation needs.
For our trial run, we're hoping to have a volunteer (or two willing to share a bed) for only two weeks. You could help with normal seasonal vegetable and flower garden work . The spring greens are busting and we've already started putting up produce. We haven’t yet sold at market but we may have enough to make it worth sitting there for 3 hours. You could help with the bees. We hope extract honey from our new bees this summer. We make cheese about every other week and another hand to help with the stirring is always welcome. We bake bread and are tinkering with solar ovens for outdoor cooking.
Additionally, we have contracted to install solar PV this summer (the solar thermal is already installed) and there are several parts of the installation that we are doing ourselves: carpentry, wiring and dry walling. We have designed the new wood shed and all the lumber has been milled from poplars we took down to improve our solar window. The wood is stacked and waiting for us to have time to build. Maybe while you're with us?
What we expect: *No smoking on the property. *Six hours work per day on tasks and chores that suit your interests or abilities *Neatness and courtesy *Conservative use of water and electricity *Participation in meal planning, preparation and cleanup *Quiet time between 10pm and 7am *References
What we offer: *A nice place to live and an opportunity to learn. *Room and board. *Washer and dryer, internet, but neither television and nor cell reception.
If you think we may be a match, let’s talk. – Sandi and Donn
