Root n' Roost Farm is a highly diversified, permaculture-based, human and animal powered sustainable farm. All our farm-fresh products are grown by hand, using only hand tools - we don't own heavy machinery. Ducks, chickens, and pigs help us work the land, bringing you only the freshest vegetables, herbs, flowers, fruit, mushrooms, poultry, eggs, and baked goods! We practice no-dig, no-till farming, and never use synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. We only use our own compost, cover crops, and manure, or OMRI listed organic products to keep our soil and crops healthy and happy! We use used and recycled materials for most of our farm infrastructure to keep our costs down, keep the materials out of the landfill, and promote the concepts of permaculture. We are active members of our community and belong to several groups centered around agriculture, alternative and renewable energy, and slow food/slow money. We love what we do, who we are, where we live, and the fact that we're growing sustainable food for our neighbors, friends, and family! Please visit our farm to learn more about us and what we do.
Work Trade / Internships: We offer lodging in our home, a large variety of locally grown food, all utilities (phone, cable TV, Internet, wood-fired hot tub, heat/hotwater, etc...) educational opportunities to learn about our farming practices, and a small stipend to interns. Work-trades do not include the stipend, and education is on a per project basis only. Interns are asked to commit to at least 3 months on our farm so you learn not only how to grow sustainable food, but also how to run a farm business, including (if you desire) business planning, permitting and licensing, taxation, finance, marketing, customer service, etc... We also ask our interns to champion at least one project during their stay in an area that we practice that you have interest in. Examples are: bio-diesel production, bee keeping, mushroom cultivation, natural / reuse building projects, growing perennial or annual crops, marketing a product or activity, running a training workshop, and much more! Contact via our website contact form, email, or phone are preferred. Thank you for your interest!
