We are a 15 acre farm located in the valley, surrounded by mountains and
lakes. Our goal 10 years ago was to establish an organic farm based on
the principals of permaculture. There are 3 greenhouse, 7 'hoop
houses', a barn, and various shelters for the larger animals. At
present, the livestock consists of milking goats, chickens, cows, wool
sheep, llamas and pigs. We grow a variety of crops in raised beds for
both home use and local sales including CSA's and farmers markets. We
are looking for someone (or couple) who is passionate about working in
partnership with the planet to provide for primary human needs. We
offer room & board in exchange for labor which is task-oriented and
allows for some outside employment,if needed. The tasks range from
early seed germination (the seasons are short here) to processing
(canning, dehydrating, freezing) in the fall, and cheese-making. The
rules are simple and based on thoughtful community living. Everyone is
provided with their area of personal space, meals (breakfast &
dinner) are shared 5 days a week. Lunch food is provided but it is a
"do it yourself" project. It can be a year-long experience for those
desiring such. We are 10 miles out of town in an area that provides
recreational opportunities all year long (skiing, swimming, golf,
hiking, etc.) There are also a variety of special events - live
theater, symphony, bands. English is the only fluent language spoken.
Under the right circumstances, children are accepted. The need
for people to start is in March. Anyone with 'goat milking' experience is highly desired (training available). Also sheep sheering skills a
plus!
