We are a small family farm on the coast of Mendocino County. We strive to feel good every day. To do more and think less. We live on 11 acres; two adults and two boys living in a sunny clearing a little more than a mile from the ocean.  A seasonal creek runs through the land, with trails to explore the forests of mixed redwood, madrone, pine and oak.

I  have lived on the coast for 16 years, co-own the local herbal apothecary and love to spend time with the wild and cultivated plants of the area.  I am a medicine maker and would enjoy sharing that knowledge while we explore the many uses of the herb garden.

My partner has been involved with natural building and the local food movement for nearly a decade.  He's worked with  the Cob Cottage Company of Oregon and is currently involved in organizing and facilitating natural building workshops in our area. We are hosting a cob project on our property in June 2012 through Sun Dog Builders. Their website is www.sundogbuilders.net for those interested in participating in the workshop or learning about their apprenticeship program.

We raise rabbits  and chickens for meat, eggs, and manure. We currently have one bee hive but are hoping to expand our bee yard this spring.

Our gardens are filled with herbs, flowers and food.  We've built a fence, a hoop house, outdoor kitchen and a chicken coop with the wood we milled on our property. We harvest lots of medicinal herbs for medicine making and propagate seeds for the garden and the classes I teach.

We plant lots of summer and winter squashes, tomatoes, cukes, beans and carrots.  Our lettuces and kales are usually tender and abundant. We try to start seeds every week so we have salad all spring, summer and fall!

We''d love to have some people around to help out and learn with us.  For lodging we can offer a 12x12 wall tent with some furnishing.  We also have lots of tent sites. We have a free standing tidy composting toilet  in the woods for your use, and a solar shower tucked in a beautiful redwood tree. And of course their is the new redwood kitchen for your use.

At this time we are currently looking for people who are particularly interested in natural building. We believe we have all the gardening help we need, but are still looking for people who would be interested in trading labor for the costs associated with the natural building workshop. Of course, there is much to learn here about plant medicines, gardening, keeping animals, living a rustic and natural lifestyle,  and learning many life and farm skills.  At this time, we are unable to host anyone with dogs.  We are unable to offer any cash incentive, so you'd need to have some money saved up to sustain you while you're here.  We are asking for 15 hours per person, per week in exchange for the living space and food from the garden.  Work trade chores will vary between gardening, building, trail maintenance, garden bed prep, chicken coop cleaning, watering, seed planting, weed-wacking, and more.

We truly believe anyone would have a wonderful experience living here and working on the land with us.  Email tigerlily@wildblue.net for more information and to set up a time to talk.
