Luz Verde Projects/SOLANA ORGANICA works with 10 different impoverished families and groups in 7 rural communities in Northern Nicaragua. Their work is to grow vegetables, herbs and produce organically. Some have little to no land, some have more.

Luz Verde sponsors, trains and administers this project "Solana Organica"' (means organic ray of sunshine), and the  produce is used for consumption for the families and for sale directly to Cafe Luz in Esteli, for subsequent commercialisation in the city and beyond. Micro-credit is also offered.
All funds  after direct purchasing are saved to reinvest in the project, to cover the technician, seeds and promotion costs. The farmers additionally receive a 20% organic premium on their sale price.
The project offers ongoing workshops in varying themes, including climate change, cooking and nutrition, exchange visits, and gender issues, we have all the women of the families in charge of the kitchen gardens, and the group includes a women's association working on communal land.

We hope Grow Food can be a wonderful place for us to find experienced volunteers to work with us in various issues related to the project here in Esteli, Nicaragua.

We are searching for further funding for Year2, and to open the project up to more families and further promotion for similar projects and a forum for this region in Nicaragua.
