We own and operate a small family dairy in the picturesque hills of Holmes County, Ohio. We milk mostly Jerseys but will be transitioning to a dual-purpose breed (e.g. Normande or Milking Shorthorn) within the next five years. We farm sustainably. We're not certified organic, but we strive to farm that way.

Our cows are pasture-based with minerals offered free choice. We raise all of our own hay, straw, and grains on the farm but plan to add free-choice kelp to replace the minerals in the next several months.

Work on the farm is hard, dirty, and never-ending. As intern, you have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of small farm management: record keeping, planning, rotational grazing and pasture management, dairy rations, crop production including square-bale haymaking, equipment and facility maintenance, cow and calf care, artificial insemination, and, of course, milking.

Housing and meals can be provided and are negotiated as part of the stipend. A 30-day commitment is expected but shorter or longer terms can be negotiated for special projects (e.g. windmill restoration, manure hauling, fence building, barn restoration, etc.) as available. We operate year-round so internships are available year-round.
