We live communally. Thirty people (men, women and children) live here full time. We share our possessions and finances and work together for the common good. We are a certified organic farm. We sell commercially, through CSA, our farm stand and selected local wholesale accounts Our goal is to become more self sufficient and sustainable. We produce our own biodiesel from waste vegetable oil. All farm equipment and trucks are powered by this. We are also installing two waste oil burners to heat our greenhouse and biodiesel processing facility with waste product from the biodiesel manufacturing process. This will eliminate virtually all waste from the biodiesel process. Our houses are heated from biodiesel and wood. We have alpine goats which we milk for our personal use. Our farm is located 5 minutes from downtown Asheville and is 7.5 acres. We also lease another 11 acres of bottom land at which we grow most of our commercial organic crops. We have three houses and two yurts. We also have a small cottage industry where we import and repack certified organic yerba maté tea from a sister community in Brazil.
