This past season wwoofers provided the backbone to our community farm. It was a super positive experience for us and we’re excited to welcome more inspired, hard-working, and creative people next season. We live in a beautiful small town without any traffic lights and one store. We cultivate land throughout town. Properties include one acre in the center of town near Silver Lake, a 2-3 acre lot on an organic beef farm, an acre of another field, and a 3/4 acre lot two houses down from the center of town home base lot. We are a multifaceted CSA farm focused on integrating the arts and agriculture and bringing people from all different contexts together to enjoy healthy food and good ol' fashion merriment. Our CSA pick-up is more than just the exchange of vegetables, but an interactive experience where we sell wood-fired flatbreads from our earthen oven, offer different fermented goodies, and have music under an old magical apple tree. We grow over 40 different vegetables, flowers and culinary herbs for the CSA, as well as dried beans and dried corn for our own consumption, a ton of young apple and pear trees and work with a couple hives of honeybees. Suggested length of stay is whatever feels right for all involved. Volunteers are needed from May through October. Accommodations include a yurt, some nice quiet spaces for tents, an outside kitchen with an earthen oven and a two minute walk to a beautiful lake. Wwoofers will be provided with staple items like grains, all the vegetables desired, community dinners on Thursday evenings and various fermented beverages. Our expectations depend on your skills, talents, and your desire to share and learn. We hope to have people who would be willing to work half days Monday through Friday and a full day Thursday (CSA pick-up day). We also openly invite artists interested to join us for short residences and exchanges, from musicians and other performance artists to visual artists, like print-makers, sculptors, etc. And lastly, we expect people to be (or are working on being) compassionate, open, creative, and communicative. From hiking through the mountains (the AT goes through our town), mountain biking, fishing, swimming in Silver lake, tubing the White River, frisbee golf in Randolph to traveling through Vermont, there are endless fun opportunities. We're located 35-40 minutes from Hanover, New Hampshire, 40-45 minutes from Montpelier, and an hour and fifteen minutes from Burlington. There is no public transportation, but it is highly likely we can help. www.fablefarm.org
Going to Fable Farm was my first time working on a farm, and it was truly one of the best experiences of my life! They're friendly, welcoming, beautiful people who really taught me a lot, more than I could have imagined. The work was laid-back and very rewarding, and I'm now in love with Vermont! I highly recommend this farm. It was a very inspiring experience for me and I think it would be for anyone.
