Communal farm since 1974 on 135 acres in rural NE Missouri. We grow most of our food organically; and share income, meals, vehicles and other resources. Egalitarianism, nonviolence, honest communication, consensus decision-making, and emotional support are core values. The land includes large vegetable/herb gardens, orchards, woods, hayfields, bee yards, cropland, and pasture. We raise chickens for eggs. We harvest deer during hunting season and serve meat about twice a week. Currently we have 6 adult members and 1 child (age 13). Our numbers swell during the growing and harvest seasons with Interns, visitors, and guests. We produce sorghum, honey, garlic, mustard, and horseradish, and some of us pursue personal interests working for the Fellowship for Intentional Community, Organic certification agencies, and Regional Food activism. Some of the ways we relax and have fun: Dinners with nearby folks at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage and Red Earth Farms land trust; crafts; swimming in the pond; holiday rituals/celebrations; and recreational outings.
