2012 Produce Garden Intern Join us at Buckland Farm, located in the southern Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania, for the 2012 growing season (May 15 to October 15 would be optimal). We have pastured pigs, and pastured layers, bee hives, produce gardens and an herb garden in development and the beginnings of a mixed fruit orchard. Qualified Applicants should have
- Experience in organic produce growing
- Willingness to learn and share knowledge to improve crop quality and yield
- Readiness to work long hours doing physical labor: weeding, drip irrigation management, mulching, pruning, planting, hoeing, fertilizing, harvesting, prepping for distribution--in addition to collateral tasks supporting the livestock and construction maintenance projects underway around the farm
- Background managing volunteers: from a CSA member up for an overnight to a cabin full of WWOOFers
- Interest in contributing to the overall quality of life and success of our farming endeavor

- Lift fifty pounds safely and repeatedly
- Drive and possesses a current driver's license
- Handle power tools and assist in simple construction tasks
- Work comfortably around pastured and free-ranging animals
- Develop and communicate a self-determined schedule for optimizing garden production
- Research and report on necessary equipment and supply purchases
Buckland Farm will provide to our 2011 Intern
