Hi there we are a small Family Farm in operation for a
little over 8 years. We raise heritage breed livestock (sheep, goats, hogs,
ducks) and have a few other friends in the fields including a guardian Donkey
and two adopted Alpacas. All of our animals are treated with the utmost of
respect from birth to death. We grow heirloom produce and medicinal herbs that
are biodynamiclly grown, non-certified organic and ethically wild crafted. We
utilize mostly a no-till format of farming and use very little machinery.
We are looking for two interns or two apprentices who would like to learn about
farming while either living here on the farm or commuting from a closeish
areas. We are a hard working crew so please be realistic about your abilities
before applying this is a no joke rural reality. The work is often in the dirt,
in the hot sun and greenhouse, hard work!. We are looking for a minimum of 1
month commitment after coming out for a trial week. At least some rural/farm experience
encouraged but we will take on a dedicated “greeny” who is good at following
directions, self motivated, and can ask for help when they do not know how to
do something.
We are looking for 3 days a week for interns 4 days for apprentices. Each day
on average being about 10hrs./day during the summer months. We break for lunch
in the heat of the day. You can join us at the local farmers market if you wish
Sat. mornings. If you are an apprentice with the Apothecary you will not want
to miss the learning opportunity that the market provides. Every other weekend
interns are responsible for watering duty which is usually 1.5hrs in the
morning and evening. You will also have 1-2 milking rotations/week (when you
get the hang of it it’s a 20 minute job)
Apprentices receive additional training in farm managing and/or Apothecary
training with our Herbalist.
There is a wealth of knowledge to soak up in a no nonsense environment. While
we support a universalist approach to living we are mainly made up of Quakers
and a spiritual component at the farm is present in the work we do.
When not working we have a creek 10 acres of woods, hammocks, thoughtful spots
and lots of nice relaxing areas to balance out the hard work. We will provide
Lunch each day you are working and access to the veggies from the garden when
you are not working for food. We offer $25/week stipend as well.
While you may be able to catch a ride into town on most days, we prefer if you would come with a car. We have a Tipi for living in, a platform for your tent or yert and we have a wooded camping area. Interns have access to the common house for internet, electricity and showers.
