D Acres of New Hampshire Organic Permaculture Farm & Educational Homestead is an innovative, non-profit organization. Our mission is to improve the human relationship with the rural New England landscape by researching, applying, and teaching skills of sustainable living, small-scale agriculture, and collaborative community. Through the initiation of local food networks, alternative technologies, skills-based cottage industries, educational programming, and community events, we are working towards the localization of our regional economy so that our needs of food, energy, shelter, community and health are met within our community.
We are currently seeking prospective applicants for our residential program. Residents are involved in all aspects of daily operations at our working farm and homestead. Focus areas include organic gardening, sustainable forestry, animal husbandry, woodworking, blacksmithing, herbology, metal fabrication, grant writing, alternative building and earthen construction, culinary arts and food preservation, renewable energy, hospitality and hostel management, youth education, graphic design, and videography. Prior experience related to sustainable living and farming is not necessary but greatly encouraged. Projects and operations are decided in weekly group meetings using consensus-based processes.
We require a minimum 6 week commitment and working 40 hours per week. Room and board (treehouses or tent platforms and 3 organic, farm-fresh meals per day), as well as access to all on-site workshops and events are provided and available for all on-site participant. Basic tasks such as meal preparation, house chores, and group meetings are included in our organized communal work.
