WWOOF Volunteer Openings for August 2013

About the Farm:

Red Dog Farm is a 23-acre production farm in Center Valley on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula. We grow and market 13 acres of mixed vegetables, berries, and cut flowers. The farm borders Chimacum Creek and is nestled against the foothills of the Olympic Mountains.

We sell our produce at three weekly farmers markets, CSA program, local restaurants and retailers, and at our on-farm store.

Location:

There is much to do around here! We are located in the awesome rural town of Chimacum (Chim-uh-cum). Within a 1/2 mile there are two cafes, a local food grocery store. Just 3 miles away, there is a library and large grocery store. Ten miles away is Port Townsend, which is a beautiful Victorian Seaport town- many festivals, young people, coffee shops, etc. About 20 miles away is access to the Olympic Mountains. Victoria, BC is an hour drive and an hour boat ride. Seattle is an hour drive and a 30 min boat ride. The farm is located 1/2 mile from a bus line. There are bikes available for your use during your stay. Also, there are many organic farms in our area with WWOOFers and interns, some as close as a mile away.

Description of Activities:

WWOOFers can expect to: Weed, transplant, harvest, and move irrigation. This is a good opportunity for someone who wants to experience a real production farm for a short stay.

Suggested Length of Stay:

This year we are only hosting WWOOFers for the month of August. There is no minimum stay, but we suggest at least a week.

Accommodations:

Tent camping (bring your own tent). Bedding not provided. Communal bathroom with toilet, sink, shower and laundry and communal outdoor kitchen are available for use. Once a week we have communal lunches. WWOOFers are responsible for preparing all other meals themselves. Produce from the farm is available for use. WWOOFers should plan to supplement with other groceries, based on individual needs.

Expectations of work:

WWOOFers will work with our fun and motivated farm crew on whatever projects a given day has in store. WWOOFers are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, generally 8am- noon on weekdays.

Qualities We Seek:

Honest, fun, motivated, positive, not heavy drinkers/ drugs, physically capable, emotionally mature, prefer age 21 or over, love of food, passionate about farming/ rural life (if only for a bit), willingness to learn our techniques and methods. No pets or children.
