The Econ Farm is not a commercial farm but a sustenance food project by owners, Tia and Terry Meer.  We try to grow everything and also teach classes on organic gardening and related sustainability classes.  We accept volunteers sometimes during the winter to help out and learn.  We like for our volunteers to have a car since we are 15 miles outside of Orlando and be experienced to do tasks on their own.  We provide primitive camping in the woods on our property and staple foods such as dry beans, oats, and rice.  You can find out more about our farm and nonprofit organization at www.simplelivinginstitute.org.

Tia and Terry have a great thing going.  Together they built a fine cabin in the woods and surrounding it are gardens, fruit trees, rain barrels, and compost piles to sustain them.  I wish that I could have talked to them more about permaculture, because it is certainly a thing of rising importance.  There is a riverside campsite outfitted with a large fire pit (Terry is a pro at building and maintaining fires) and many owls to sing you to sleep.  There is an outdoor bathroom, shower, and kitchen which would do you better than many you'll find indoors.  There are good greens to eat, work to be done (oh those Wedelia weeds!), and Tia is there to show you the way (Tia is a pro at the life of plants).  The Meers will treat you well and teach you more than a few things.  Thanks Terry and Tia, I wish you the best.
