Aloha! We are a small farm and CSA located within Green Valley Village, a 350-acre intentional community and aspiring eco-village near Sebastopol, CA. We promote a holistic connection with our land, food, nature's cycles, our community and ourselves. We are contributing to agri-
cultural renewal. Through on-farm participation and other educational opportunities, we are rebuilding our connection with our agricultural roots. Our CSA business strives to build bioregional food security and a localized, relationship-based economy. We provide greater place-based reliance for the intentional community village of which we are a part. We cultivate connections with the vast network of other ecologically based farms and local food communities in northern California.
In 2012, we will be in our fifth year of production. We produce food for a variety of people: 30 offsite CSA members, for the residents of our land-based community, for a few local restaurants and markets, and for several school cafeterias with our farm-to-school program. This year we will be trying our hat at selling at farmer's markets. So far we have mostly grown a diverse array of annual vegetables and fruits, but we are beginning to cultivate more perennial crops, fruit trees, staple crops, grains and herbs. We incorporate ecological farming and permaculture principles on our farm, and have an interest in biodynamic agriculture. We would like people who really want to be on a farm - to work hard and commit to learning what it takes to sustain a small farm. Farm work includes weeding, plant propagation, harvesting, produce box packing, transplanting, etc. Work can also be available also in our kitchen gardens, with animal care (we have goats, chickens, cows, pigs and llamas), and with other projects on the land. People who are interested in agri-
cultural renewal are encouraged to come. Opportunities to do cheesemaking, food preserving, seed saving, permaculture design and homesteading skills exist within our community.
We are looking for farm interns who will stay for 3 months or longer beginning in April. All interns will begin with a one to two week trial period. Food (veggies from the farm, staples like beans and rice, fresh goats' milk, mostly vegetarian fare), lodging (tent camping available during the dry season, possibly an indoor dorm style room available) and awesome rural community culture are provided. Also provided are plenty of educational opportunities - interns can partake in all eco-village events. In the past workshops on the land have included non-violent communication, permaculture design courses, re-skilling workshops, primitive skill and nature awareness courses, wildcrafting and more - it all just depends on who is here and what they are willing to teach. We request an exchange of 25 hours of work per week. We live in a small, rural village community, and practice heart-centered communication, so we are looking for people that are relatively easy to get along with and open communicators. People that are hard working and can be self-motivated please.
If you have more questions, feel free to contact me. I generally check email only once per week, so please understand if I do not get back to you for a few days. Peace and happy growing!!
