Finca Carolina is a 23 hectare organic farm and nature reserve and organic farm. Andrew Ogden currently manages UTSI’s station in Uvita. The site is surrounded on one side a by a large tract of nationally protected forest (1,000 ha) and by a large (350 ha) private nature reserve on the other side of the pristine Ballena river. We grow a wide variety of tropical fruits and vegetables organically. We also run an educational tourism operation called Uvita Tropical Studies Institute (UTSI) which is based at Finca Carolina. UTSI,   www.utsi.org    brings student groups and tourists to Finca Carolina to hike our extensive network of hiking trails, enjoy delicious meals, and stay in our screened in wooden cabins.

Participants work 4 hours per day 5 days per week in exchange for housing in our screened in wooden cabins, access to a kitchen, showers, bathrooms,  etc, and use of all the hiking trails. Finca Carolina does not have electricity, so bring a headlamp and leave the hair dryer behind. :) We often have food from the farm to share but it's best that people come with $50 per week for food. This is NOT a fee that we collect. We charge volunteers $25 per week person to help us cover operational costs. Free time allows for extensive exploration of local beches, waterfalls on the finca, etc. Volunteers help with all aspects of our operation including farm and garden work, light construction, and running our educational tourism business.
