Green Valley Community Farm
Welcome!  We are a small farm and CSA located within Green Valley Village, a 350-acre intentional community near Sebastopol, CA.  We promote a holistic connection with our land, food, nature's cycles, and our community as a way to greater wholeness within ourselves.  We are contributing to agri-cultural renewal.  Through on-farm participation and other educational opportunities, we are rebuilding our connection with our agricultural roots. Our CSA business strives to build bioregional food security and a localized, relationship-based economy.  We provide greater place-based reliance for the intentional community village of which we are a part.  We cultivate connections with the vast network of other ecologically based farms and communities in northern California.
In 2010, we will be in our third year of production.  We produce food for 30-40 individuals and families, half of whom live on the land itself. So far we have mostly grown a diverse array of annual vegetables, but we are beginning to cultivate more perennial crops, staple crops, grains and herbs.  We apply permaculture and ecological farming principles on our farm, and we are starting to incorporate biodynamic growing practices.  People who are interested in agri-cultural renewal are encouraged to come.  We do cheesemaking, food preserving, seed saving, permaculture design and homesteading skills.  Farm work includes weeding, plant propagation, harvesting, produce box packing, transplanting, etc.  Work available also in our kitchen gardens, with animal care (we have goats, chickens and llamas), and with other projects on the land.
We are looking for farm apprentices who will stay for 3 months or longer beginning in April.  All apprenticeships will begin with a one to two week trial period. Food (veggies from the farm, staples like beans and rice, fresh goats' milk, mostly vegetarian fare), lodging (tent camping available during the dry season, possibly an indoor dorm style room available) and awesome rural community culture are provided.  Also provided are educational opportunites - like fieldtrips to other area farms and gardens.  People interested in learning more about the food system are encouraged.  We request an exchange of 20 hours of work per week.   We live in a small, rural village community, and practice heart-centered communication, so we are looking for people that are relatively easy to get along with and open communicators. Hard workers please.
If you have more questions, feel free to contact me, and please do not be offended if it takes a while for me to get back to you, as there are consistently many tasks to do and I generally check email only once per week.  Peace and happy growing!!

Finca Bona Fide

// Project Bona Fide is a non-profit organization working toward sustaining culture through organic agriculture, community correlated outreach, and re-forestation projects on the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua. Project Bona Fide has been created out of a need to support rural Nicaraguan farming communities so that they may gain self-empowerment and economic stability. In addition to offering farmers financial and technical support toward gaining international organic certification, Project Bona Fide focuses on establishing much needed fair trade export market* opportunities, preserving natural environments, and focusing on local health and nutrition projects.

Project Bona Fide and its pilot farm, Finca Bona Fide are dedicated to creating organic cooperatives and establishing fair trade markets that directly benefit the farming community.

Finca Bona Fide is a 43-acre educational permaculture farm in rural southwest Nicaragua being developed as a small farm research/training center for regenerative agriculture and land management.

// Volunteers are one of the backbones that support Project Bona Fide. The scale of the project and the growth of the farm will evolve as our volunteer program grows. Volunteers support a variety of projects including; natural building, tree propagation, gardening, irrigation, cooking, planting and community projects with the local community.

We accept volunteers through direct inquiry via our website. Contact: coordinator@projectbonafide.com

Project Bona Fide asks international volunteers to cover room and board plus an additional $3 a day for the Farm Fund, totaling $10 a day. Those staying for a month or more are asked to just cover room and board at $200 USD per month.

Long term internships are also available.  Please see our website at http://www.projectbonafide.com/volunteer.html for more information.

circleAcres

CircleAcres is a collective land project seeking to create a self sustaining ecosystem that provides its inhabitants and community with food, fuel, and medicine while moving away from mechanization, resource extraction and consumerism. Utilizing biological processes to meet our needs while making use of the unending stream of “waste” produced by the current system. We are nestled in Chatham County, NC a small community with a strong sustainable agriculture prescence.

It is our first year on the land so there are lots of projects underway and lots of learning opportunities to jump headfirst into. Some of the things you can potentially learn about while here include:

Permaculture, wildcrafting, rainwater catchment, human scale food production, sheet mulching, establishing a food forest, small scale animal husbandry, goat milking, growing medicinal herbs, making tinctures, vermicomposting, charcoal production, hugelkultur, growing mushrooms, graywater systems, grafting, seed saving, scything, dumpster diving, homemade potting soil from local materials, and cob construction.

We ask that work traders help out 20 hrs. a week with farm activities, and help on a rotational schedule with dish duties and cooking. Food will be provided along with tent accommodation. We are all omnivores but can accomodate vegetarians and vegans though there may be occasions you will have to take responsibility for your own meal needs. Circle Acres is still in its infancy so accommodations are rustic. We shower outdoors and get about 2 gallons of hot water at a time. So if you are in need of more traditional living quarters we may not be the best match, but if you have an adventorous heart and yearn to be a part of creating a Truly sustainable system you’ve found the right place.

no pets please.

DAWN NorthWest

Moving from our Sonoran Desert site (DAWN SouthWest) to the Pacific Northwest is a huge change, but it did happen last year. in late November, 2008, a little house in Sweet Home, OR became our new home.  It will take many years, but starting over isn't all bad!  The goal now is to show that most anyone (even an older, single woman with two dogs like me) can start with a conventional house that is found to be "affordable" without a mortgage and has enough peace and quiet to settle into my "retirement" days. Although it has barely begun, the hope is to renovate this very conventional but very old little house into a very energy efficient and also beautiful space of my own,  to share  this experience with others, like my family, but also other women in particular, as well as young people looking for alternatives.  It is hoped that this will help someone else, when the world seems too daunting and building a home may not be possible, but making an existing one liveable is indeed possible. And the small steps and sense of accomplishment in making it a joy to inhabit can and should be shared.

So this site too will be a developing "urban homestead"/permaculture site. All the elements will serve many functions, and each is a part of the design of the “whole site”. As owner and instructor using permaculture strategies,  Joelee Joyce seeks to teach a way to live on the Earth that takes care of the Earth, and people, and can produce a surplus to share. A conscious effort is made to introduce ways of thinking about the design of an entire site, while building and gardening and conserving water and other resources in any climate.  We will offer consultations on whole site design, & sustainable living techniques, which includes building with natural materials, as well as rain water harvesting, food forests and gardens, land and building restoration & more. Workshops and training will be offered, as well as general "how-to do-it-yourself" information and links to valuable local resources, and materials for building a real home, creating a continuing and known source of healthy, organically grown food for your table and to share with others.

We are offering two classes (one day and weekend workshops) on a variety of sustainable living topics.  Classes are offered also through the Linn Benton Community College (www.linnbenton.edu) Sweet Home branch this fall: Build an Earthen Bread Oven, Oct 10 and Rainwater Harvesting Systems on October 24.

Special workshops can be organized in advance for groups or upon request (minimum group sizes may apply).  Check with us for work exchange and internships, see how to make and use natural paints, recycled building materials and other resources for building beautiful, creative, natural, low-cost extensions of the Earth. One of the things we have found is that it is a great way to learn about history and ancient techniques with materials that exist almost anywhere. Since some of these techniques are being lost over generations, it's really rewarding to be able to bring these ideas back to life.

WOOFERs and others interested in living sustainably are welcome.  Contact us for details, for work exchange or internship program.  Location: a little off the beaten path in the beautiful foothills of the central Cascade Range, just east of the I-5 corridor. To keep up with on-site as well as other local events, join our email list. Send full name and address & private email. (If you have a spam blocker or a corporate or institutional email, these announcements will likely not come through). Many thanks for your interest and support.

Rachel Carson, early in 1963 in one of her last lectures before her death from cancer.  “....I suppose it is rather a new, and almost a humbling thought, and certainly one born of this atomic age, that man could be working against himself.  In spite of our rather boastful talk about progress, and our pride in the gadgets of civilization, there is, I think, a growing suspicion-indeed, perhaps an uneasy certainty-that we have been sometimes a little too ingenious for our own good.  In spite of the truly marvelous inventiveness of the human brain, we are beginning to wonder whether our power to change the face of nature should not have been tempered with wisdom for our own good, and with a greater sense of responsibility for the welfare of generations to come"
.”Those who contemplate the beauty of the Earth find reserve of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.  Rachel Carson.

You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

HEARTLAND MESAS
Heartland Mesas is creating an intentional community using primarily ZERI and permaculture principles. We prefer a resourceful, creative person, or couple, with head in the clouds and feet on the ground. The property is on the Rio Grande across the river from Truth or Consequences (formerly known as Hot Springs) New Mexico where Spaceport America is currently under construction 25 miles away. We have three milk goats, 5 kids, 3 donkeys, 35 chickens, a large garden partially planted, an Earthship/papercrete medicine circle, and caretaker dwelling both partially built. Eight acres is river bottom and the rest is on a mesa surrounded by the river. We have two wells. One is equipped with both solar and regular pump which runs off a biodiesel generator. The other has a windmill. We have pistachio, pecan and cherry trees.  We currently have a 5th wheel trailer for living quarters. Building skills (carpentry-electrical) helpful but not necessary.    Meditation (ie. prayer, yoga, sufi dancing, or other mental/spiritual disciplines ) would be necessary. Alcohol and drugs are discouraged. We are dreaming this century into reality. The medicine circle will be open to our whole community when it is completed.

All Saints New Age Garden
Aloha! and Welcome! to All Saints New Age Garden and sanctuary of Peace!
Aloha, thank you for your interest in All Saints New Age
Garden.

This is a forming Vegan community on an historic 7 acre MACADAMIA plantation on North shore Maui, Hawaii.

The main focus of this project is:
Restoring and converting this
old nut orchard into a Vegan Biodynamic foodforest and
model mini new age eco village.

We want to make this a working, peaceful farm. A peaceful farm is a place where animals are not subject to "farming"
and live as companion/assistants to the human agriculturalists. A peaceful farm is not in a race to produce a 'high' yield', that is a later benefit that accrues from effective creation and combination of plant systems, micro climates and environment.

This 7 acre macadamia orchard has been fallow for ten to eighteen years depending on the area, and the three bedroom house has been managed by a real estate company as a rental unit while the 82 year old landlady lives in a nearby town. Previous tenants had put few plants in the ground here and thought that it was a bad idea because of ownership issues raised between the Landlady and previous capitalising tenants. We disagree and do not conform to this paradigm. Rather Our motivations are thus: To create a place of divine beauty, resplendant peace, and exemplary co-operation with nature. Forcing nature to produce more is antithetical to true symbiosis. We are drawn to this specific location by it's magical vibration. To create our dream, which is all about bringing in the New Age of Peace, Love, and co-operation, and we are fortunate to have the blessings and assistance of the higher forces of the universe in this matter. For many years we have read about organic farming, and we now to begin to apply this knowledge. Our landlady does not come from a place of wanting to implement these revolutionary practices. She would have us spread chemical fertilzer and poison. This is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated. But since the rent is getting paid she has allowed us to proceed, as long as we keep the place 'looking nice'. The laws of energy and attachments forbid us from grieving if perchance this situation does not work out at this very fine location. We have selected several alternate sites on Maui to bring our fanciful dreams of food forests to fruition, but have chosen this spot first. There are 3 old ponds in need of restoration, ~20 Avocado trees, ~200 Full grown MACADAMIA trees planted in the 1930's and '40's with plenty of smaller trees started in the 70's. There are also ~20 orange trees, ~50 Bannanas, plus lemons, star fruit, breadfruit, passionfruit, mulberries, asian pear, japanese pear, and guava. In and around the 40' x 60' greenhouse we grow peppers, tomatoes, antheriums, and a variety of tropical plants.

The guiding principals of this experimental farm will be based on Love and co-operation with the animal and plant kingdoms.

Meleanas Farm

Aloha, Meleanas Farm is a very special three acre lot on beautiful North Shore Oahu just across the street from Pipeline.  We are just getting started and are experimenting with the CSA model, and currently offer a self serve self select service with pick ups are at your leisure (the earlier in the week the better) at the farm fridge or in Manoa.  You can choose just a bag of greens, or a bag of basil, some eggs etc...or get 'the works' with the week's harvest.  Our fruit trees have not started producing so we are looking to team up with some Pupukea farmers to offer most importantly avocados, and anything else we can offer!  We would like to make a North Shore coop for members of the community to plug into as they see fit.  The farm also has lodging available and we hope to create a true agtourism destination for visitors and kamaaina alike.  We also plan on offering ecological living classes from yoga, to the full two week permaculture design course. website meleanasfarm.com coming soon!
