Independent producer Annabel Seymour, from BreakThru Films (The Devil Came on Horseback, The Trials of Darryl Hunt), is casting for a GrowFood documentary series. She'd like to cast a few folks who travel from farm to farm—people with diverse stories and perspectives to show a well-rounded view of the nomadic organic farming experience. Why? For starters, we always had the domain GrowFood.org and it was
in our logo.
Sarita and I spent the weekend on Orcas Island, Washington, at a reunion of farm interns from the Bullock Permaculture Homestead. Some 40 interns from the past 15 years returned to the homestead to share what we've learned and what we've done. This was the first time I've really grasped the impact that one farm can make with an internship program. More than 150 interns have trained with the Bullock family. All 40 who returned were implementing permaculture principals in their lives.
Last week, the Mother Nature Network released its second-annual list of the top (readers nominated, editors chose) 40 farmers who are under 40. We're still holding out for People's 50 Most Beautiful Farmers.
Last week, I attended the Slow Money National Gathering, here in Santa Fe. Slow money, founded by venture capitalist Woody Tasch, attempts to make investing simpler and more healthy by urging people to invest in companies and ventures they can literally see grow. The ethic is to make growth real, like crop growth, rather than abstract, like those investment statements that show up in the mail every month and go right into the trash.
